Our People

After completing his studies at Strathallan School, James continued to learn about the construction industry through working on sites at various family businesses as a labourer and joiner before progressing in his career.
James is currently Managing Director of Knight Property Group Plc and Chess Group Plc, as well as a Non-Executive Director of a number of Scottish-based organisations. Over the years James and the team have been nominated for a number of awards, winning the Scottish Property Developer of the Year award in 2009 and Grampian Industrialist of the Year in 2013.

James is a Gold Patron of The Prince’s Trust and has been a Member of The Young Presidents Organisation (YPO) since 2003, focusing on the development of better leaders through education and idea exchange. In his spare time James enjoys shooting, fishing and spending time with his family.
Howard began his career in construction 1985 as a trainee Quantity Surveyor with Doric Construction whilst studying at Robert Gordon University.
Progressing in his career, Howard moved to Hall and Tawse, where he worked as a Contract Surveyor and Senior Quantity Surveyor before joining Chess Group as Senior Surveyor before becoming Director of both Chess Group and Knight Property Group.

Keeping busy as Chairman of West End football team, in his spare time Howard enjoys keeping active, participating in cooking challenges and spending time with his children.
Gordon began his career in accounts and finance in 1988 after completing his studies at Aberdeen University.
Progressing in his career, Gordon became Finance Director of an Oil Service company in 2001 before joining the construction industry in 2008. With over 15 years in senior accounting positions, Gordon joined both Chess Group and Knight Property Group as Finance Director in 2013.

After spending over 15 years travelling Scotland and Europe as a football referee Gordon’s life is now a little more relaxed as he tries to spend some more time with the family whilst maintaining a modicum of fitness and having a keen interest in rugby.
After completing her studies, Angela dedicated over 15 years to high street retailer Marks and Spencers, working as a customer assistant and coach before moving on to MI Swaco as an admin assistant before joining the BlueSky team.
When Angela isn’t at work she is busy as lieutenant of her local Girls Brigade Company or exploring with her Duke of Edinburgh Group

In her spare time Angela enjoys spending time with her family, listening to music and attending highland dancing competitions with her daughter.
After completing his studies at Hazlehead Academy, Ian began his engineering career as an apprentice in 1986 at Aberdeen Technical College.
Working in the industry for almost 30 years, Ian has gained experience in all aspects of the industry, including design, estimating and technical sales and commissioning in air conditioning, ventilation, heating and plumbing. Ian has over 26 years of experience running a variety of air conditioning companies.

In his spare time, Ian enjoys playing golf in warmer climates and spending time with his daughter.
Martin began his IT career after studying at Aberdeen University. Starting out as an Internet Trainer & Web Designer at RSC Internet, one of Aberdeen’s first Internet café & Internet Service Providers, Martin then moved on to CVG Computer Services, a local IT solutions provider, focusing his skillset on IT support.
In 2001, Martin moved on to work for Chess Group plc, providing an in-house IT resource for the group. As well as supporting the IT needs of all of the Chess Group companies, Martin and his team soon branched out into providing IT support services for external clients as Eskimo Intelligent Solutions, formerly known as Chess IT. With over 20 years of experience in the IT industry, Martin successfully leads his team as Eskimo continues to grow.

In his spare time, Martin likes travelling and is a keen movie buff with a passion for home cinema.
